LONG-TERM North Yorkshire Moors Railway resident No. 37264 covered more miles than any other locomotive on the line in 2025, even though it is not certified to operate on the main line section to Whitby. It travelled 6767 miles during the course of the year, the equivalent of 189 return trips between Pickering and Grosmont.

The increased fire risk during the 2025 season meant a lot of diesel mileage occurred throughout the year, and one other, Nos. 31128 Charybdis, also covered more mileage than any resident steam locomotives. The Brush Type 2, which is part of the Nemesis Rail fleet, returned to Burton by road from Pickering New Bridge during January for maintenance.

An appeal to raise £500,000 has been launched.
