1940s Under the Hammer

Ladies dressed head to toe in 1940s outfits mingled with other buyers at a vintage fashion sale on July 3rd. Held at Thomas Mawer and Son in Lincoln, the auction of vintage clothing from the Victorian era through to the 1980s – with plenty of 1940s and 1950s items – was a great success.

A 1940s bathing suit pictured above – along with a 1960s’ swimming hat and 1940s’ sunhat with matching bag – fetched £110. Several dresses from the 1950s’ designer Horrockses were also on sale, including a pretty summer dress decorated with pink roses with cap sleeves and a full skirt, which fetched £60.
